Dance of the Mayflies

Hand-Printed Edition

During the pandemic I watched a documentary on the Mayflies. Their story is incredible and touched me in a profound way. These insects hatch and live for one, single day. They have one day and one night to find a mate, and do their business before dying. Their offspring will take an entire year before it’s their turn to dance, for just one night. What a beautiful reminder to not let life pass us by. I wanted to capture the movement, the fluttering beauty of these little winged wonders during their last dance.

Each of the 7 images are Screen Prints using contemporary (photographic) and reduction methods as well as hand-applied Pochoir techniques. Of the 7 scenes in this series, a very limited edition of just five, 16x20s were were hand-pulled by the artist, printed full-bleed on handmade paper (also made by the artist).
