Meadow Wreath

Hand-Printed Edition

Since the Dandelion from the series is printed as a positive, centered on a negative-space field, I wanted a piece that was juxtaposed, with the imagery occupying up the outer edges leaving negative space in the center. The idea of a reverse wreath of beautiful botanicals was born.

One day in late spring, I went out into the wooded meadow and collected any plant matter that caught my eye. I was looking for interesting shapes, wispy details, stalks and stems, flower and fauna. in a matter of a few hours, I’d collected more than I could cary. I brought them all back to the studio, put them all in water and begin monotype printing them one by one (see video below).

These monotypes were then scanned at high resolution and reassembled one-at-a time into what would become Meadow Wreath. Not one single plant or print is repeated in this piece. However, some of these same plants are also featured in other pieces in this series, notably, Dragonfly, King of the Meadow and Grass and Lace.

Meadow Wreath was printed atop a splatter-wash of umbers, olive greens and earth tones, which is why the edges of this piece have a warm, earthy glow, like a sepia tone quality.

This is a one-of-a-kind piece. No other prints or editions are available (yet), but I’m considering it. Let me know if you want one.

About this series

For over two years, I collected natural elements—leaves, flowers, feathers, even dragonfly wings—to create and capture direct monotype impressions. Each print captures not just the image but the very texture of these organic forms, yielding a depth that even photography cannot match. Yet, the beauty of these monotype prints was often too small to be fully appreciated or even seen with the naked eye.

Details of the Meadow is my solution—an expansion of these delicate, intricate prints into large-scale works that celebrate their depth, complexity, and inherent beauty. By using screen printing as a tool for reinterpretation, I bridge the fine details of nature with the expressive qualities of printmaking, ensuring that every nuance is seen, felt, and experienced.
